KinderReady

KINDERREADY is a program in partnership with Cuna Mutual Foundation, United Way of Dane County, Madison Metropolitan School District and the Children's Services Society of Wisconsin to provide parents of preschool children, age two to five, living in the Madison Metropolitan School District, with quality early education programs that promote school readiness. Understanding that parents are a child's first and most important teachers, we use research-based parent education and interactive parent-child play groups to help parents fine tune their natural nurturing skills to become experts in their child’s cognitive, social and emotional development with the goal of meeting the MMSD’s early learning standards for kindergarten entry.

Family Enhancement’s role in the collaborative project is to deliver quality, evidenced-based parent education curriculum. There are two components to that delivery:

• The Incredible Years—a 12-14 week program for groups of parents interested in learning easy, effective ways to deal with behavior problems in young children (ages 2-10). Group discussion and activities center around building strong relationships between parents and children, increasing positive interactions in the household and reducing difficult behaviors. As part of a kindergarten readiness program, The Incredible Years teaches parents an effective, non-aggressive approach to addressing challenging behaviors in a way that not only gives results in the home but builds the self-control necessary for success in school.

• KinderPlay—is a 12-week parent-child playgroup with emphasis on building the skills needed for success in school (ages 2-5). Weekly activities strengthen early literacy skills, build a solid base for math learning and encourage growth through exploration. As integral players in their child’s early education, parents play together with their children as they learn and develop in a friendly and supportive environment. Discussions focus on how children learn, using play as a learning tool while sharing simple activities and games that can be used at home to provide a well-rounded early childhood education.

The KinderReady program is available in English and Spanish and is offered to a limited number of families through an application process. To apply for the KinderReady program, please contact Children's Services Society of Wisconsin at (608) 221-3511.
