CORE CLASSES

CORE BASIC PARENTING SKILLS CLASS is a six-week class in basic parenting skills to help parents learn and practice positive parenting techniques that promote child health, safety, nurture and protection. Participants may be non-custodial parents and must be referred by Dane County Social Workers. Class participants work with our staff Parent Educators to focus on their children's needs, plan their visitations and improve their parenting skills. Classes are conducted by our staff of professional Parent Educators versed in the areas of child development, special needs of highly stressed families, special needs of adults themselves abused as children and adult learning styles. All classes display a strong cultural sensitivity and regard for participants' economic, educational and literacy levels. Once the six week course is completed, integration into a Parents' Places group is encouraged to provide ongoing parent education and support for parents. Participants in the CORE classes are referred by Dane County social workers.
